Michael J. Shanahan
Professor, Department of Sociology
Director of Research, Jacobs Center for Productive Youth Development
University of Zürich
Michael Shanahan has been a Professor of Sociology at the University of Zurich since August, 2016, and is Director of Research at the Jacobs Center for Productive Youth Development since October 2016. He studied sociology and child development at the University of Minnesota and was a post doctoral fellow at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He has held professorships at Penn State University and UNC-Chapel Hill and was Hewlett Fellow at the Center for Advanced Studies in the Behavioral Sciences, Stanford (1998/1999). His main research interests include life course sociology theory and methods, with a focus on individual differences in the life course, particularly genetic factors.

Doris Bühler-Niederberger
Professor of Sociology at the University of Wuppertal
Doris Bühler-Niederberger, born 1950, Prof. Dr. phil. is Professor of Sociology at the University of Wuppertal since 2004.. She studied psychology, sociology and social history at the University of Zurich. In 1982, she received her doctorate with her thesis on " Therapie und Zwang – teilnehmende Beobachtung in einer Suchtkrankenorganisation" and in 1991 she obtained her Habilitation in Sociology from the University of Zurich. Several publications and editorial activities accompany her work, which was awarded with the René König-Lehrbuchpreis of the German Sociological Association in 2012. Main research areas are the sociological analysis of growing up and childhood, especially issues of social and economic inequality, and of childhood institutions and patterns between local conditions and global developments.
